Stampede

A stampede of chickens is not unlike a stampede of cattle, it's just quieter! Ten hens equal eighty claws madly pounding the earth, it's quite impressive! If you are unfortunate enough to be caught in a stampede of cattle, you run the risk of possible bodily harm or death! Whereas with the chicken, you run the risk of your possible emotional harm and their possible death! The stampede pattern is the same with all the crowding, pushing and weaving, but chickens do it all around your feet! Herein lies the problem! I have tried to outrun them, but if I am carrying the goody bowl they tend to pick up speed with some going airborne! The granny shuffle is a wise choice yet very time consuming let me tell ya!

Juggling Chickens

It's really hard to juggle chickens! I felt like we should do something to celebrate the sun! Yesterday we suffered thunder, lightning and hail! The sad attempt to juggle them for a bit of fun fell short of success. The pecking order got in the way, apparently I got it wrong. The evening ended with soft happy cackles as we strolled past the mole hills and field grass to the coop where they happily roosted.

1% Smarter Than A Chicken

Chickens don't care that much about random schedules, their schedules are tight, they don't like excuses! Not letting them free range when the dogs are in and we are gone is for their protection, but they will hear none of this! I found myself apologizing for my late arrival from a doctors appointment, it was a low point. Pressing themselves against the door with one stink eye on me I flung that door open and they were at a dead run! Knowing I would be at a dead run in an hour I was counting on a timely roost!Apparently there is a little give in the schedule when they get out late! My save tonight was a simple flour tortilla. The girls were on the hill when I walked out the back door and they spotted me. I held that tortilla out there like a flag of hope, hope of a new dining pleasure! As I jogged down the hill waving the tortilla flag Ten chickens ran as if training for a marathon! I figure really you have to be only 1% smarter than a chicken to win! I was 1% smarter tonight!
