Lucy begs for hair products and a towel! After being safely contained all day yesterday, the girls had a come hell or high water attitude about free range time today, and high water it was!

Stretch Of The Puny Tongue
The introduction of peanut butter has allowed Sylvia to stretch her puny tongue beyond it's normal capacity. Marjorie has a new respect!

1% Smarter Than A Chicken
Chickens don't care that much about random schedules, their schedules are tight, they don't like excuses! Not letting them free range when the dogs are in and we are gone is for their protection, but they will hear none of this! I found myself apologizing for my late arrival from a doctors appointment, it was a low point. Pressing themselves against the door with one stink eye on me I flung that door open and they were at a dead run! Knowing I would be at a dead run in an hour I was counting on a timely roost!Apparently there is a little give in the schedule when they get out late! My save tonight was a simple flour tortilla. The girls were on the hill when I walked out the back door and they spotted me. I held that tortilla out there like a flag of hope, hope of a new dining pleasure! As I jogged down the hill waving the tortilla flag Ten chickens ran as if training for a marathon! I figure really you have to be only 1% smarter than a chicken to win! I was 1% smarter tonight!

Yogurt, The Manna From Heaven!
After tasting the manna from heaven, Marjorie has a spiritual experience and breaks into the hallelujah chorus! It's a festival of sorts, but regretfully ends with some trying desperately to lick the plate with insufficient tongues.
Today's lesson from the coop: Don't covet the other cluckers nest!
Seriously! I have four beautiful nesting boxes for the girls to deposit their eggs in, but Marjorie #1 chicken has decided the stack of straw is the best place to lay! This has stirred up some interest from #2 & 3 ! The straw stack has now become a throne of sorts and the chickens line up to get in it! I saw two hens in there this morning and a third looking for a way to squeeze in there with them! Yesterday there were seven eggs in that straw stack, BUT....one egg in a beautiful nesting box! Looks like I've got me a breakaway hen!

Sylvia Goes For A Breast Enlargement
Patiently waiting for the girls to roost so that I could close the hatch and secure them for the night, I noticed something.....Sylvia was doing this subtle move with her neck. Fearing that she could be having trouble with the quantity of warm rice she had just eagerly consumed I had a close eye on her. As I watched her, she continued this nifty little move, it looked as if she were going to break into some sort of dance! I am guessing a pole dance considering their fondness and talent in negotiating the perch. I have seen one whole chicken squat and squeeze between the legs of a sister just to get in a better position! I digress, turns out she was going for a breast enlargement! Now that I think about it, maybe I should install a pole!
